Apple's most controversial phone is here, The iPhone 7, and it's built with what we most love about the iPhone. The iPhone 7 was released with it's big brother the iPhone 7 Plus and yes, the rumours you heard about these flagship phones are true i.e. no headphone jack, nor physical home button and the introduction of water-resistance among others. Let's dive right into the specs and see if these bad boys are worth the price tag.
Design
Both models embody the same aluminium design as previous models. Not much has changed in the design except for the new placement of the antenna lines now resting along the sides of the iPhone. They are the first iPhones to be equipped with water-resistance technology and dust resistance with an IP67 rating which is lower than some other device models like the S7 which has an IP68 rating and can last 5 meters versus 1 meter for 30 mins in both the iPhone 7 and 7 plus. Both phones lack the physical home button and is replaced with a simulated home button that responds to taps and gestures.
Both feature two speaker grills known as the dual speakers at the bottom of the phone. Apple says the speakers are 2x louder than the iPhone 6s to give a loud stereo experience. How did they make room for the second speaker?... Say goodbye to charging and listening to music simultaneously . They removed the headphone jack! A lot of consumers, even myself , find that mostly discomforting . This resulted in a lot of backlash and criticism. But, this is Apple's way of saying technology is moving on from wired experiences and then they introduced the Apple Airpods which are by the way relatively expensive and the likeliness to loose them is concerning. They compensated for the removal by making a lighting to 3.5mm dongle if you'd still prefer the headphone jack.
Size & Color
The iPhone 7 is measured by

The iPhone 7 Plus is measured by
- 158.2mm × 77.9mm ×7.3mm (6.23''×3.07''×0.29'')
The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus both come in variants of 32gb, 128gb, 256gb in the colors: Rose gold, Gold, Silver, Black and Jet black. (Jet black variants is available only in 128gb and 256gb).
Display
Last year, it was rumoured Samsung was to provide OLED displays for the iPhone 7. Well, that didn't happen. Both models have the IPS LCD displays which is a bit of a let down since many devices already incorporate OLED displays.

The iPhone 7 has
- 4.7 inch LED backlit IPS LCD, 1334 x 750 pixels (326 ppi) resolution, 65.6% screen to body ratio.
The iPhone 7 Plus has
- 5.5 inch LED backlit IPS LCD, 1920 x 1080 pixels (401 ppi) resolution, 67.7% screen to body ratio.
Camera
iPhones have had the crown for camera quality for a long time though a lot of manufactures are catching up especially Samsung with it's current S series. Do these phones still live up to the iPhone's glorified camera standards? Yes, they do! Apple has bumped up the specs from their previous model, the iPhone 6s.

The iPhone 7 camera specs are
- Rear: 12MP sensor, f/1.8 aperture, focus pixels, optical image stabilisation, Quad LED (dual tone) flash, 4K recording. Front: 7MP sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 1080p recording.
- Rear: Dual 12MP sensors (f/1.8, 28mm & f.28, 56mm), focus pixels, optical image stabilisation, 2x optical zoom, Quad LED (dual tone) flash, 4k recording. Front: 7MP sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 1080p recording.
Both models reportedly brings 50% more camera light sensors than iPhone 6s to enhance pictures in low light scenery because of the larger f/1.8 aperture. It also introduces four smart LED flash that are 50% brighter than iPhone 6s that adjusts to change in your environment. These are all great improvements but it is the iPhone 7 plus that catches the eye due to the dual lens camera at the rear.
The iPhone 7 Plus comes with a wide angle and telescope lens. This offers 2x optical zoom properties taking great pictures at further distances and far greater depth which Apple says is good for portrait shots. They both come with 7MP front camera with 1080p recording which is great but the same f/2.2 aperture as last years models.

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have stepped it up with the A10 fusion chips equipped with the Quad core processors which delivers 2x faster CPU performance and 3x faster graphics performance than the iPhone 6. It also offers more processing with less battery consumption. The iPhone 7 has 2gb ram like last years models but that doesn't matter cause of it's powerful processor. While, the iPhone 7 Plus has been bumped up with 3gb ram to of course assist the extra camera abilities and also speed up processing power.
Battery
The exact battery capacities weren't specified but said iPhone 7 owners would get 2 hours more compared to the 6s and iPhone 7 Plus owners would get an extra hour compared to the iPhone 6s Plus. Apple still hasn't implemented fast charging capabilities which is a set back but like Apple has done over the years, It will probably incorporate it in future models as a new feature on the iPhones.

Storage & Price
The company has doubled its previous storage capacities from -16gb, 64gb, 128gb to -32gb, 128gb, 256gb and gave the same value of money as last years iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models.
There is also only a $100 difference with each storage model which makes it a bit easier to bump up for the extra storage.

Overview
The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus overall are great improvements from the previous models but with the omission of headphone jack, fast charging capabilities, OLED screens, is it worth the hype? That depends on you virtually. If your can forgive Apple for a faster processor, better camera, great storage options, bumped up battery, then this is a great phone to have.
